What is 2122 about?

Purpose/Objective(s): This study evaluates the outcomes of patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) receiving definitive or neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy (CRT). The impact of radical surgery and paclitaxel-based chemotherapy (CHT) regimens were emphasized. Materials/Methods: 127 patients with localized esophageal SCC completed definitive CRT (DefCRT, nϭ44) or neoadjuvant CRT followed by radical surgery (NeoCRT, nϭ83). 38 patients had AJCC Stage II disease and 85 patients had Stage III disease. The median radiation dose was 60Gy (range 50 -64Gy) in DefCRT group and 36Gy (range 30 -40Gy) in NeoCRT group. 57 Patients received CHT with paclitaxel plus cisplatin (TP) and 70 patients received 5-flurouracil plus cisplatin (PF). The treatment outcomes including local progression-free survival (LPFS), regional-free survival (RFS), disease-free survival (DFS), distant metastases-free survival (DMFS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), overall survival (OS), and prognostic factors were analyzed.
