What is Recent progress in plasma-catalytic conversion of CO2 to chemicals and fuels about?

Carbon dioxide conversion into value-added products including fuels and chemicals (such as methanol, ethanol, acetic acid and liquid hydrocarbons) has drawn particular attention. This process helps mitigate not only the greenhouse effect but also the unsustainability of fossil fuel extraction. However, a significant amount of energy is needed for converting the highly stable CO2 into chemicals and fuels. The conventional thermocatalytic route is energy-intensive and thus not sustainable. In this circumstance, non-thermal plasma approach appears as an attractive alternative approach for converting CO2 into fuels and chemicals at near ambient conditions. This review is a critical analysis of selected literature on plasma-catalytic and plasma photocatalytic interaction for CO2 conversion. The combination of a catalyst and non-thermal plasma has shown promising results for improving selectivity to desired products with enhanced CO2 conversion under mild conditions. The challenges of plasma-assisted catalytic CO2 conversion into oxygenates such as methanol are also highlighted. A combination of photocatalyst and plasma discharge offers a way to further improve the reaction efficiency. T
