This patent describes a process for producing needle coke and carbon electrode grade coke simultaneously through delayed coking of coal tar pitch. Coal tar pitch obtained through low-temperature or high-temperature carbonization of coal is fed to a delayed coker. Needle coke produced from this process has a low coefficient of thermal expansion suitable for uses like graphite electrodes. The process also produces a lower grade carbon electrode coke.
