What is Metal Oxide Heterostructures as Catalysts in Organic Reactions about?

Catalysis is a key domain of chemistry playing a major role in biological, chemical, and physical sciences. The term "catalysis" was firstly introduced by "Berzelius" in 1836, relating it to the word "analysis" to vindicate some well-known experiments (Védrine, 2017). Catalysis is simply a process that enhances the rate by adding a small amount of catalyst, which supposedly does not take part in the chemical reaction or simply does not undergo any chemical change. Catalysts simply reduce the activation energy, which is required to overcome the energy barrier. A catalyst increases the kinetics of the reaction without altering its thermodynamics. The use of catalysts also leads to selectivity. So, reactions involving the formation of multiproduct lead to selective formation of a single product or most important one if the catalyst is involved. This is the major concern these days as the formation of by-products not only reduces the atom economy of a process but also leads to environmental contamination. Thus, the use of catalysts in a chemical process or reaction is a key step toward designing sustainable technology. Heterogeneous catalysts follow the adsorption phenomenon, which inc
