What is Rizal about?

Rizal went to Paris and Berlin from 1885-1887 to specialize in ophthalmology. In Paris, he worked under Dr. Louis de Wicket and socialized with fellow Filipinos. He then traveled to various cities in Germany, including Heidelberg, Leipzig, and Dresden, attending lectures and translating works. In Berlin, he was welcomed into scientific circles and associated with prominent researchers. Rizal lived in Berlin for five years studying further, observing Germany, and publishing his first novel, Noli Me Tangere.
