The new Almaguin Highlands Secondary School in South River, Ontario opened and features many environmentally friendly designs like maximizing natural light, recycling systems, and an energy efficient heat pump system. The $24.4 million school was funded by the Ontario government and MPP Monique Smith to provide a sustainable educational facility for the community. It was designed through public consultation to be a showcase for environmental initiatives and lifelong learning.
