Robert the Bruce was a Scottish king from 1306 until his death in 1329. He led Scotland in the wars for independence against England. After killing his rival John Comyn, Bruce seized the Scottish throne and was crowned king in 1306. His victory over the English at Bannockburn in 1314 secured Scottish independence.
