What is Healing Efficiency Characterization of Self-healing Polymers about?

Almost all types of polymers, including thermoplastics, thermosets, rubbers, elastomers, and hydrogels, have either demonstrated self-healing capability, or have shown potential to be healed. Various applications or potential applications have been identified . While several self-healing approaches and strategies have been explored, and the literature is exploding, generally, healing can be divided into two categories. One is extrinsic healing based on the incorporation of an external healing agent; the other is intrinsic healing by the polymer itself. For extrinsic healing systems, the healing agent can be liquid [31,32] or solid [33,34]. While the solid healing agent such as thermoplastic particles or fibers can be directly dispersed in a polymer matrix [35][36][37][38], liquid healing agents need to be stored and released on demand through various containers such as microcapsules [39,40], hollow fibers [41,42], and biomimetic microvascular network [43,44]. For intrinsic healing systems, they include polymers with reversible covalent bonds [45], ionomers [46], polymers with supramolecule chemistry (hydrogen bond, metal-ligand coordination, π -π stacking interaction, etc.) [47], t
