This paper introduces a novel methodology for calculating the power draw of different size classes within a charge distribution in tumbling mills using Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) and the Discrete Element Method (DEM). The methodology was tested with dry spherical glass beads in a laboratory mill and showed statistical agreement with measured power. The study highlights the importance of accurately depicting charge motion to improve power draw predictions in comminution processes.
