This study compared the efficacy of nifedipine and isoxsuprine in preventing preterm labor. 75 pregnant women between 28-36 weeks gestation were randomly assigned to receive either nifedipine or isoxsuprine. Nifedipine was found to delay delivery for a mean of 22.4 days compared to 16.5 days for isoxsuprine. Nifedipine also had a higher success rate of inhibiting preterm labor at 90% compared to 76% for isoxsuprine. Additionally, nifedipine had fewer reported maternal side effects.
