What is Overview of the Korean War Events about?
The Korean War began in 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea, capturing Seoul and occupying most of the South. The United Nations authorized troops led by the US to defend South Korea and push back North Korean forces over the 38th parallel border. By 1951, Chinese troops had joined the war and pushed UN forces back below the parallel. An armistice agreement was signed in 1953, dividing Korea along the 38th parallel border that remains today.
