King Dhrtarastra asks his advisor Sanjaya what transpired between the warring parties, his sons (the Kauravas) and the sons of Pandu (the Pandavas), who had assembled on the holy battlefield of Kurukshetra, desiring to fight. Sanjaya explains that Kurukshetra is a sacred place of pilgrimage mentioned in the Vedas as a place even visited by denizens of heaven. Dhrtarastra is fearful that the holy influence of Kurukshetra may favor the virtuous Pandavas over his sons. He separates the Pandavas from the family
