This document defines six classes of embedment and backfill materials based on their composition and properties. Class I includes crushed rock and gravel with less than 15% fines. Class II includes clean gravels and sands with less than 12% fines. Class III includes soils that are borderline clean or with fines, or soils with fines making up 12-30% of their composition.
