About this document

History of Ozamiz City, Philippines by Bree is a document available to read on EtoBox.

The city of Ozamiz grew out of the old Spanish town of Misamis, which was established in the 18th century to control pirate activity. During World War 2, the Spanish fort in Misamis served as the headquarters for the guerrilla resistance to the Japanese occupation. After the war, Misamis became a chartered city and was renamed Ozamiz in 1948 in honor of a WW2 hero from the province. Ozamiz City became chartered due to its geographical advantage as the eastern gateway to the province.
