What is Guest-Free Clathrate Hydrates Stability about?

This study uses molecular dynamics simulations to explore the thermodynamic stability and growth of guest-free clathrate hydrates of water, specifically structures sI and sII. The findings indicate that these clathrates are metastable at 1 atm pressure and can crystallize from supercooled water, but nucleation of ice is favored over clathrate formation. The research suggests that producing empty water clathrates in laboratory conditions is challenging and proposes two strategies for achieving this.
