Michael Madhusudan Dutt was a 19th century Bengali poet and dramatist who was influential during the Bengali Renaissance. He was considered the father of Bengali sonnet. Some of his major works included the narrative poems King Porus and The Captive Ladie, and the plays Sermista and Padmavati. He was inspired by English Romantic poets like Wordsworth and Milton and sought to modernize Bengali literature with Western influences.
