What is Daily Star 04-06-2026 Daily - Epapers - BD about?

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has raised electricity tariffs by an average of 16.7%, effective from the June billing cycle, despite objections from stakeholders. This increase comes as citizens face rising costs due to fuel price hikes and other economic pressures. BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed acknowledged that the decision was made without assessing the economic impact on consumers, which is expected to increase their expenditures.
