Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) often have insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia, which is associated with dyslipidemia or abnormal lipid levels. This study evaluated 88 women with PCOS, finding that those who were hyperinsulinemic had significantly worse lipid profiles than those who were normoinsulinemic. The hyperinsulinemic women were treated with metformin, which led to progressive improvements in their lipid profiles after 3 and 6 months, lowering cholesterol, LDL, and triglyceride level
