This study expounds on the working principle a nd improved method of the SL3-1R snowmelt tipping-bucket p recipitation sensor jointly developed by the Xinjiang Meteorolo gical Technical Equipment Support Center and Shanghai Mete orological Instrument Factory. Presently, an experimental comp arison has been carried out at the Altay base station in Xinjia ng, and some comparison results have been obtained. The key technologies will be further improved through a comparison of experimental data. With the developed technology, precipitatio n observations can be achieved in winter in Xinjiang with stro ng operability and at a low economic cost. This technology can be promoted across the country and Central Asia.
