- Wilhelm Roentgen discovered X-rays in 1895 while experimenting with cathode rays. He noticed a fluorescent screen glowing in his laboratory from cathode rays generated in a nearby Crookes tube, farther than expected. - Roentgen spent six weeks studying this phenomenon alone in his lab. On December 28, 1895 he presented his discovery of X-rays, which could penetrate and photograph bones, to the Würzburg Physico-Medical Society.
