Las Piñas was one of the earliest fishing settlements on the shores of Manila Bay, though its exact founding date is unclear. It was an important site during the Philippine Revolution of 1896 and was occupied by Japanese forces during World War 2. Las Piñas became a municipality separate from Parañaque in 1907 and joined Metro Manila in 1976. In 1997, Las Piñas became the 10th city of Metro Manila after residents approved cityhood in a plebiscite. The origin of the city
