What is Premchand about?

Premchand was born in 1880 in a village near Varanasi, India. He was given the name Dhanpat Rai by his parents but was nicknamed "Nawab" by his uncle. His mother died when he was young and he received little affection from his step-mother. Premchand went on to become one of the most celebrated writers in Hindi and Urdu, known for his novels, short stories, and translations of foreign works. He used the pen names "Nawab Rai" and later "Premchand" when publishing his writing.
