The narrator visits a poet and his woman at their home. After staying up all night talking and taking pills, the poet emerges from the kitchen holding a large beef tongue, shouting "Beef tongue! Beef tongue!" The sight of the raw tongue causes the narrator to vomit, as he finds the organ disturbing. The poet cooks the tongue, and the smell causes further nausea in the narrator. He decides to leave, feeling unwell from the experience.
