Stephen Grover Cleveland was born in 1837 in New Jersey and had nine brothers. He practiced law in Buffalo, New York and began his political career after being elected sheriff of Erie County in 1870. Cleveland served as the 22nd and 24th President of the United States, the only president to serve non-consecutive terms. As president, he modernized the navy and curbed public spending. After leaving the presidency, he retired to Princeton, New Jersey where he later died of a heart attack in 1908.
