1) An old and ugly queen wished to regain her youth, so she offered her kingdom to any young girl willing to trade places with her. 2) A beautiful peasant girl named Peronella agreed to the trade, but when she experienced the difficulties of being an old queen, she quickly wanted to trade back. 3) The fairy condemned both the queen and Peronella to remain in their new situations. The queen was miserable as an old woman, while Peronella was happy returning to her simple life as a peasant.
