About this document
Understanding Jauhar in Rajput History by VEDIKA MALVIYA is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The document discusses the historical practice of Jauhar among the Rajput people of India. Jauhar involved the mass self-immolation of women and children when military defeat at the hands of invading forces was imminent, in order to avoid capture, rape, and slavery. The men would then engage in a final suicidal battle known as Saka. Jauhar was intended to preserve the honor and pride of the Rajput community and deprive the enemy of victory. One famous instance took place in 1303 at the fort of Chittorgarh.
