What is Great Depression and New Deal Overview about?
The Great Depression began in October 1929 as stock prices collapsed, plunging the US economy into a lengthy period of high unemployment and poor economic growth. In response, President Hoover took some measures like creating the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to provide loans to banks and businesses, but unemployment continued to rise. By 1932, public opinion had turned against Hoover and he was defeated in a landslide by Franklin D. Roosevelt, who promised a "New Deal" for Americans.
