What is Effect of varicocele on sperm DNA damage: A systematic review and meta‐analysis about?

Varicocele was defined as abnormal dilation and tortuosity of internal spermatic veins within the pampiniform plexus . The prevalence of varicocele among the general male population was approximate 20% . The incidence would reach to 35%-40% among infertile men, which was 35% in men with primary infertility and was 75% in men with secondary infertility respectively . Consequently, both clinicians and researchers concentrated on exploring the relationship between varicocele and infertility, considering that varicocele could be corrected by surgery. Several mechanisms could account for the varicocele-related infertility, which included scrotal hyperthermia, hormonal disturbances, testicular hypoperfusion and hypoxia . All these mechanisms could lead to impairment of sperm quality and quantity, then reduced fertility capacity of affected men .
