Santa Rosa City has a history spanning over 226 years. Originally called Barrio Bukol, it was a territorial extension of Biñan. In 1757, Dominican friars erected a chapel and established a headquarters near the border with Silang Cavite. Barrio Bukol gained independence from Biñan as the municipality of Santa Rosa on January 18, 1792. The town was named after Saint Rose of Lima and the Dominican Order had strong influence.
