What is GLP‐1 Receptor Agonists about?
GLP-1 receptor agonists are highly effective antidiabetic drugs that reduce HbA1c and body weight in patients with type 2 diabetes without increasing the risk of hypoglycaemia, unless they are combined with sulfonylurea or insulin therapy. • Meta-analysis of large cardiovascular outcome trials indicates that improved cardiovascular and renal outcomes may be a class effect.• GLP-1 receptor agonist treatment should be considered for all patients with type 2 diabetes and established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. • Gastrointestinal symptoms are transient in most but lead to discontinuation in about 5% of individuals.
