In August 1913, Dublin experienced the Dublin Lockout, a significant industrial dispute that arose when employers attempted to undermine the Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union, leading to widespread strikes and extreme hardship for workers. While the immediate outcome was a failure for the workers, as they returned to work without union recognition, the event raised awareness of social inequality and strengthened the labor movement in the long term.
