What is Castles and Moats Explained about?
Hundreds of years ago, kings and queens lived in castles for safety and had workers dig moats, or deep ditches filled with water, around the castles to keep enemies away. Moats required people to cross via bridges or boats and ranged in size from small ditches to lake-sized barriers. While most structures no longer have moats, some places like zoos still use moats to separate animals from people.
