Pottery had existed in Ilocos before the Spanish arrived but commercial production only began in the late 1920s. Today there are few remaining pottery workshops due to lower demand for traditionally made jars. Abel is a locally made fabric using cotton, beeswax-brushed yarn and traditional geometric or floral designs. Zarzuela is a form of musical theater introduced by the Spanish involving singing and was commonly performed in rural areas during festivals to showcase Ilocano culture, history and heroes.
