This study evaluated the effects of two voluntary swallowing maneuvers (Mendelsohn maneuver and effortful swallowing) on esophageal physiology compared to normal swallowing. Healthy volunteers underwent high-resolution manometry while performing the maneuvers with and without a 5 ml bolus.
