What is Symptoms of Bronchiolitis in Infants about?

Bronchiolitis is an inflammation of the bronchioles usually caused by viral infection, most commonly RSV. It involves edema, mucus production, and damage to epithelial cells lining the small airways. Symptoms include cough, wheezing, difficulty breathing, fever and loss of appetite. Risk factors include prematurity, lung/heart disease, young age and environmental exposures. Hospitalization may be needed for poor feeding, distress or hypoxemia. Diagnosis is clinical but tests can help rule out other causes.
