What is Myoglobin and Hemoglobin Structure Overview about?

Myoglobin and hemoglobin are heme proteins that carry oxygen. Myoglobin stores oxygen in muscle cells, while hemoglobin transports oxygen in red blood cells. Both contain a heme group consisting of an iron atom bound to a porphyrin ring. In myoglobin, oxygen binds directly to the iron. In hemoglobin, four subunits each bind oxygen cooperatively such that binding at one subunit increases affinity at the others. This allows hemoglobin to efficiently load and unload oxygen in the lungs and tissues respectively
