What is Randomized Clinical Trials about?

## Abstract Randomization is widely recognized as a fundamental principle in the design of Phase III clinical trials. It is a way to minimize conscious and unconscious bias among patients and physicians with regard to treatment assignment and treatment acceptability. This paper outlines the advantages and disadvantages of randomization in clinical trials with discussions in permuted blocks, stratified randomization, cluster randomization, and the role of randomization as a basis for inference.
