What is Alton about?

In medieval times, men practiced archery on Sundays at the butts, which is now a public park in Alton. During the English Civil War, Royalist troops occupied Alton but were defeated by surprise attack from Parliamentary troops, with over 700 Royalists captured and bullet holes still visible in the church from the battle.
