Mr. Yashawant Moreshwar Vaze started selling potato vadas (Indian burgers) from the window grill of his home in Kalyan, India in 1968 to help pay off marriage loans. Known as "khidki vada" because they were served from the window (khidki), the vadas became popular in the local area. Vaze was a pioneer by opening a specialized shop just for vada pav.
