What is Epiphora about?

When a patient complains of tearing, the first step is to determine whether it is caused by an increase in tear production (lacrimation) or a decrease in tear drainage (epiphora) Ocular surface irritation due to trichiatric lashes, foreign bodies, eyelid malpositions, tear film instability may cause an abnormal increase. Functional Deficiencies of tear drainage may be functional or anatomic.
