What is A. pullulans PMA Production Study about?
Eight strains of Aureobasidium were tested for their ability to produce poly(b-L-malic acid) (PMA). Four strains showed positive results for PMA production. The most productive strain, A. pullulans CBS 591.75, was used to study PMA production in bioreactors. Under optimized conditions of 20°C, pH 4.0 and 9 days of fermentation, this strain produced 9.8 g/L of PMA with a yield of 0.11 g of PMA per gram of glucose consumed. A procedure was also developed for isolating and purifying the PMA produced.
