The Bahmani Kingdom was one of the most powerful Muslim kingdoms in India from 1347 to 1526 AD. It was founded by Hasan Gangu Bahmani and stretched across a large region of the Deccan plateau. However, the kingdom grew weak under successive rulers and split into five smaller sultanates in the late 15th century. The Bahmanis made important contributions to education, art, architecture and governance during their rule.
