What is The Final Crossing about?
As the dark shadows of World War II began to fall across Europe, the French luxury liner Normandie, a ship unrivaled in size and glamour, pulled away from its berth at Le Havre in a shower of paper streamers and confetti. The New York-bound passengers who lined the railings included Mrs. William Randolph Hearst, Marlene Dietrich, Jascha Heifetz, Sonja Henie, Cole Porter, and an American secret agent named David Nathan. If Nazi Germany had its way, the Normandie and its 3,000 passengers and crew would soon be lying at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. David Nathan didn't know that the Normandie's cargo included the bulk of France's gold reserves worth tens of millions and a German bomb capable of sinking the enormous ship. But when he intercepted a coded ship-to-shore radio message, he knew the safety of the liner and the lives of all aboard were in desperate peril. But time was running out, and as the Normandie plowed westward through the North Atlantic, the world's largest maritime disaster was only minutes away from happening.
