e n t e r M ojiaoshan 莫角山, l ocally know n as " Gushangding 古上顶, " locates to the east o f Pingyao 瓶窑 town, Yuhang 余杭 d is tric t (fo rm e r Yuhang c ity ), Hang zhou 杭州 c ity, Zhejiang 浙江 province, about 20 km northwest o f the c ity center o f Hangzhou. T h is site is situated in the western part o f the extensive " Liangzhu site cluster." T he " Liangzhu site cluster is one o f the most im portant regional d istrib utio n s o f the Liangzhu culture. The cluster covers an area o f 3 3 .8 sq km, extends across the towns o f Pingyao, A n x i 安 溪 , Liangzhu 良渚, in the n orth e rn suburb o f Hangzhou. M ore than 100 Liangzhu cu ltu ra l sites have been registered in the recent fie ld survey and coring op erations, among w hich the M ojiaoshan is the largest o f a ll sites. T he m ajor feature o f the M ojiaoshan site is a near regular rectangular man-made p la tfo rm o f more than 30 hectare in size. T h e east-west dimension is 670 m, the north -so u th dim ension is 450 m , and the p la tfo rm is raised about 8 m above ground level.
