This study investigates the effects of guaifenesin (GGE), N-acetylcysteine (NAC), and ambroxol (Amb) on MUC5AC secretion and mucociliary transport in human airway epithelial cells stimulated with IL-13. GGE was found to significantly reduce MUC5AC secretion and increase mucociliary transport rates, while NAC and Amb were less effective. The findings suggest that GGE may be a beneficial treatment for airway mucus hypersecretion and related conditions.
