About this document
Overview of Automatic Lathe Types by Suyash Tandon is a document available to read on EtoBox.
An automatic lathe can have either a single spindle or multiple spindles that hold bars of material to be machined simultaneously. A common configuration is six spindles indexed in a cage after each operation, similar to a Gatling gun. Each station typically has multiple tools in turret, horizontal, and vertical arrangements that sequentially cut the material through facing, turning, drilling, and parting operations analogous to an assembly line.
