What is The Alexandrine scripts : a Stretch of sand and other stories about?

Five remarkable tales in which the author reconstructs the day-to-day life and experiences of ordinary and extraordinary people in ancient Rome, Spain, Carthage, Syria and Judea. These writings tell of Aulus Paulus, 'the Goose' who sought respect and glory but found mockery and contempt on every side; of Apollonius who loses his best friend to sectarianism and Civil War; of the intrigues and quarrels that led to the destruction of the city of Artameradon; of Hannibal, the Carthaginian general who shook the Roman Empire and of old Philaenos who discovers too late the folly of war.
