Here, Gary Pratico concentrates on the stratigraphy of the site, the architectural evidence, inscriptions, pottery and metal objects.</p> <h3>Booknews</h3> <p>A final report was never published of Glueck's three seasons of excavations in Saudi Arabia at a site he, following earlier researchers, identified as the Biblical Ezion-geber (Extinct City). Pratico and his colleagues reevaluate his data and his interpretations in light of subsequent theory and findings elsewhere, focusing on the Iron Age casement fortress and fortified settlement periods, and conclude that occupation can only be established for the eighth to the sixth centuries B.C.E., rather than Glueck's tenth to the fifth.
