Long ago in a small kingdom in West Java, King Sang Prabu had an only daughter named Princess Teja Nirmala. To find her a husband, the king held a contest of strength that was won by Prince Raden Begawan of Blambangan. However, a wicked fairy who loved Raden Begawan used magic to make him forget his wedding. When this was discovered, the furious fairy killed Raden Begawan. The kind fairy then took the sad Princess Nirmala to live in Kahyangan to protect her from the wicked fairy.
