What is Corruption Vernon Ari about?

The document analyzes how local democratization and the composition of local political parties affected corruption levels in Indonesian districts from 2001 to 2004. It finds that overall corruption declined during this period, but less so in districts that elected more representatives from secular rather than Islamic parties. Districts that voted more for secular parties in 1999 saw relatively higher corruption in 2004.
